About the Book

“Ethics is not a methodology or a strategy one can apply

without a grounding in basic theory, principles, concepts.”

(Sandra Foy, 2002)

The book “Values in Tourism - An Itinerary to Tourism Ethics” is aimed at students in the field of tourism and leisure studies on a bachelor level, as well as starting professionals in the tourism and leisure branch: managers, employees, policy makers, authorities, local and central governments. The purpose of this book is acquainting (young) professionals with the moral issues involved in their work in tourism and/or leisure. The book contains a thorough study of the theoretical foundation of ethics, while it elaborates on the moral dilemmas people meet in making responsible choices in tourism and leisure. Moral dilemmas are described and explained through casuistry and on the basis of ethical theories. These cases and theories may assist the reader in answering these questions and in contributing to raise moral awareness with regard to moral issues in tourism and leisure. In an informative and manageable way it indicates how ethics can contribute to handling moral issues in tourism and leisure in a morally responsible way.
